Private Housing

Brickyard Village

Brickyard Village is a new development of 28 single-family units of affordable rental housing on three sites located on Warren Street, Shepard Street/LaGrange Terrace and the new June Lane. The first tenants moved in on February 1, 2004.

The affordable units are based on Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Service Code and HUD’s HOME Investment Partnership Program. Applicants who receive federal subsidized assistance will be accepted. Applicants do not need to be currently receiving federal subsidized assistance to apply.

Twenty-five of the families selected must have incomes of 60 percent or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by the HUD Income Guidelines. The remaining three families selected must have incomes of 40 percent or less of AMI.

There are two and three bedroom units, all units come with a dishwasher, laundry hookups, separate utilities, storage space in the basement as well as parking for two cars. The LHAND performs all property management including maintenance of the units and landscaping services.

Brickyard Village is accessible to a number of community resources, including MBTA bus and commuter rail service, banks, restaurants, supermarkets, the Greater Lynn YMCA, various churches and the Central Business District. Within walking distance are several elementary schools, Lynn and Nahant beaches, a new skateboard park and the Lynn Commons. There is also a newly renovated playground in the neighborhood.

St. Jean Baptiste

The St. Jean Baptiste development, located on the grounds of the former St. Jean Baptiste Church on the corner of Franklin and Lyman streets, includes 24 rental units.

The St. Jean’s project, a collaboration between the LHAND and the Archdiocese of Boston’s Planning Office for Urban Affairs, inspired neighbors to revitalize the entire community. The LHAND granted almost 60 loans to residents in the neighborhood for improvements, and nearby property owners have worked to enhance their homes and landscaping.

Units at St. Jean Baptiste Apartments are affordable units based on Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Service Code and HUD’s HOME Investment Partnership Program. Applicants who receive federal subsidized assistance will be accepted. However, applicants do not need to be currently receiving federal subsidized assistance to apply.

Eleven of the families selected must have income of 50 percent or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by the HUD Income Guidelines. The remaining families selected must have incomes of 60 percent or less of AMI.

*These buildings are not public housing units and rents are set by IRS regulations. Applications can be obtained at the Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development office located at 10 Church Street.
